The faces of poverty in America would surprise you. Hard working people are living below the poverty line fighting daily to pay basic bills and put food on the table. Hard working men and women are going to the local food banks to secure food for their families. Poverty is not something we, who live in one of the wealthiest countries, can continue to ignore. We must pull our heads out of the clouds and be courageous enough to see the many faces of poverty and then we must be willing to make systemic changes in our way of being that help people rise out of poverty and it will not be the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps mentality.” This Sunday, Oct 14th, the Anew United Church of Christ along with St Mary’s Episcopalian Church will show The Line at 12:30pm at St. Mary’s. The Line documents the stories of people across the country living at or below the poverty line. They have goals. They have children. They work hard. They are people like you and me. Please join us for this ecumenical very important event.
